Story Behind the Technology
When Dantherm was acquired in 2018, one of the key strategic goals was to continually develop advanced technology and to protect our unique intellectual property. Each of our new technologies address real world field challenges with innovative solutions.
Our first patent, the EcoFlow unit, acts as an emergency ventilation system positioned between the air conditioner and the fixture on the door. This design allows for simple activation during critical failures, maintaining the optimal airflow and cooling without requiring any new infrastructure. This is a high impact solution for remote or high-risk environments–like mountain tops–where routine maintenance is difficult, and emergency backup is essential. Not only does our EcoFlow boost unit reliability, but it also improves efficiency through intelligent airflow integration, operating through the same vents as the original unit.
Secondly, we have international and US patents covering our thermal siphon technology. We have developed units with this technology that operate in the same footprint as a traditional heat exchanger but more than doubled the capacity-from 100 watts/℉ to 230 watts/℉. This advancement allows for major performance improvements without compromising space, which is critical in many installations. These innovations stem from our commitment to protecting our internal research and development and preserving the exclusivity of our unique and distinctive design approach.
Innovation Process
At Dantherm, innovation is an intentional, ongoing process based on identifying customer needs and rooted in continuous improvement. Taking an idea from concept to patent can take anywhere from three to five years, and it’s neither simple nor inexpensive.
Each product development process at Dantherm begins with gathering real world input from our customers, where our team can identify their unique challenges. From there, collaboration begins between our engineers and our CEO Troy F. Berg to brainstorm and prototype design. Solving the customer’s unique challenges with an innovative and reliable solution is paramount. However, at Dantherm, we take a broader mindset in the product development process. “An emphasis on the technician also happens in the design process” explains Dantherm Cooling CTO, Rick Schmidt, “we aim for products to have easy installation and service,, while also operating to every need our customers have. I just talked to a senior technician in Texas, and they said that they loved working on our units, they are very easy to work on and service in the field.” By maintaining a flexible engineering agenda and fostering creativity, we ensure our innovation engine stays active, continually innovating for improved reliability, efficiency and user experience across our entire product line.
Once a product concept shows its uniqueness, we send it to our patent attorney for validation. This then becomes a rigorous legal process where we must justify how and why our solution is different from anything else and continue to highlight the products’ uniqueness in the market.

The resulting patent is valuable to Dantherm, but the rigorous patent process adds value for our customers because it pushes us to take innovative approaches to solving problems.
